This is an awesome article on the joys and challenges of remodeling. This young family created a beautiful living space but first they had to find the perfect fixer upper. Their original house budget was $600k. Not finding what they wanted at that price they bought a fixer at $446k then poured $280K into remodeling it. The impact on work and family, paired with the ultimate cost of over $725k gives one pause but they did create a unique and valuable house in a great location. Families with several children, elder care responsibilities or both spouses working full time should think long and hard before jumping into this type of project.
