Most homeowners don't realize how many award winning contractors exist right in their neighborhoods. Yet, every year for the past 22 years, the Remodelors ^TM Council of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties has held the Academy Awards of remodeling right here in Seattle. The award program is fondly called the REX awards, a contraction of the words "remodeling excellence."

The award program is very competitive with over 48 entries submitted in more than 24 categories ranging from Major Remodel over $500,000 to Landscaping. The winners are decided by a team of experienced judges who are in the industry themselves.

Why should a homeowner care? Well, even if your contractor isn't a REX award winner, homeowners should know that most professional contractors are extremely proud of their work, and are held to a very high standard by their peers. And, if your contractor is a REX award winner, perhaps your home will be the next one entered into the competition.

The 2008 REX Awards committee has come up with the theme, "A Historical Look at the Future," to set the stage for showcasing what's come before, and what's yet to come in the world of remodeling - not just in terms of designs and finishes, but also with regard to experience acquired and shared, hard knocks survived and reputations established.

REX is the time to recognize and honor the thinking, planning and hands-on creating and re-creating by some of the best remodelers in the area, and all that goes into remodeling the spaces homeowners dream about. And it's also the time to assure, inspire and encourage those who are considering and planning their next remodel project that MBA remodelors are the best in the business.
