This remodeled basement was the perfect spot for a wine cellar that exudes a European atmosphere. Custom-made wine racks, custom wood cabinets and a beautiful brick design were the choices to create the beautiful wine cellar storage you see here.

Originally, the owner was planning a small home addition to house his 500 bottles of wine. However, after careful evaluation of his needs, AK Renovations helped him see that his remodeled basement already had a room with the correct dimensions to house the wine and create an entertaining area as well.

How did they get this look? The daylight basement was bricked up on both the inside and outside to close the room’s window and create a “cellar” atmosphere. Walnut cabinets and wine racks were custom built to fit the room exactly. While that sounds expensive, it turned out to be less expensive than using stock wine racks and stock cabinets available from many companies.

A custom door with wrought iron inserts was specially ordered from California and stained to match the custom walnut cabinets.Tongue-in-groove paneling was added to the ceiling and stained to match the cabinets and door.  Real brick was used to brick the inside walls and floor.

Specially coated dry wall and special paint were used to help eliminate moisture and withstand the cool temperatures needed to keep the wine at the right temperature. The final touch? A faux painting on the wall outside of the room creates the feeling of old world charm even before you enter the wine cellar.
